Terms of Service
Last updated: 13 May 2026
1. About These Terms
These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of The Self Index website and psychometric assessment platform (the "Service"), operated by The Self Index Ltd ("we", "us", "our"), a company registered in England and Wales.
By accessing or using the Service, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service. These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales.
2. Eligibility
You must be at least 16 years of age to create an account and use the Service. Certain assessments (including the Dark Triad assessment) require you to confirm that you are 18 years of age or older before proceeding. By using the Service, you represent that you meet these age requirements.
3. Account Registration
To access paid assessments, you must register for an account using your email address. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account and for all activities that occur under it. You must notify us immediately at [email protected] if you suspect any unauthorised use of your account.
We use magic link authentication — we will send a sign-in link to your email address. You are responsible for keeping your email account secure.
4. Subscriptions and Payments
We offer the following paid plans:
- Single Test (£7.99): one-time purchase granting one assessment credit.
- Monthly (£9.99/month): recurring subscription granting 3 credits per month.
- Annual (£49.99/year): recurring subscription granting 24 credits upfront.
- Lifetime (£99 launch price): one-time purchase granting unlimited lifetime access.
All prices are inclusive of VAT where applicable. Payments are processed by Stripe. By purchasing a subscription, you authorise us to charge your payment method on a recurring basis until you cancel.
You may cancel your subscription at any time via your account settings. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period. We do not offer refunds for partial periods, except where required by law (including the UK Consumer Rights Act 2015 and Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013).
5. Assessment Credits
Credits are used to unlock individual assessments. One credit unlocks one assessment attempt. Credits do not expire whilst your subscription is active. Monthly credits are allocated at the start of each billing cycle and do not roll over. Annual credits are allocated upfront for the full year.
6. Nature of Assessments
The assessments provided by The Self Index are psychometric instruments grounded in peer-reviewed research. They are intended for self-discovery and personal development purposes only. They are not clinical diagnostic tools and should not be used as a substitute for professional psychological, psychiatric, or medical advice.
Results reflect statistical tendencies based on your responses and should be interpreted as indicative rather than definitive. If you have concerns about your mental health, please consult a qualified professional.
7. Intellectual Property
All content on the Service, including assessment questions, scoring algorithms, result interpretations, copy, design, and software, is owned by or licensed to The Self Index Ltd and is protected by copyright and other intellectual property laws. You may not reproduce, distribute, or create derivative works from any part of the Service without our prior written consent.
Your assessment results are your own. You may download and share them for personal use.
8. Acceptable Use
You agree not to:
- Use the Service for any unlawful purpose or in violation of these Terms.
- Attempt to reverse-engineer, scrape, or extract assessment content or algorithms.
- Share your account credentials with others or resell access to the Service.
- Submit false or misleading information during assessments.
- Interfere with or disrupt the integrity or performance of the Service.
9. Affiliate Programme
We operate an affiliate programme. Affiliates earn commission on referred purchases. Affiliate terms, commission rates, and tier structures are set out in the Affiliate Agreement, which forms a separate contract. We reserve the right to modify or terminate the affiliate programme at any time with reasonable notice.
10. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, The Self Index Ltd shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the Service. Our total liability to you for any claim arising from these Terms shall not exceed the amount you paid to us in the 12 months preceding the claim.
Nothing in these Terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, or any other liability that cannot be excluded by law.
11. Termination
We may suspend or terminate your account if you breach these Terms, engage in fraudulent activity, or if we are required to do so by law. You may delete your account at any time by contacting us at [email protected].
12. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by email or by displaying a prominent notice on the site at least 14 days before the changes take effect. Continued use of the Service after that date constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
13. Governing Law and Disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales. If you are a consumer, you may also have rights under the law of your country of residence.
